‘Ain’t good enough’… Tim Sherwood says 24-year-old Chelsea player needs to score more goals

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher simply needs to bring more goals to his game.

That is according to Tim Sherwood.

Conor Gallagher, 24, is a box-to-box midfielder that has been a key starter in Chelsea’s team this year.

The Englishman’s scored three times in the last week, two in the Premier League win over Crystal Palace and once in the FA Cup success versus Aston Villa.

However, they were his first goals of the 2023/24 campaign. He’s got three goals and six assists in 32 Blues appearances so far this season.

Sherwood sounds like he’s a fan of Chelsea’s Gallagher as a player, but his one criticism is that he’s got to score more often.

“I’m not sure what Conor’s deal is at the moment, but he’ll be attractive to a Premier League side. Now I think his numbers should be better…” Sherwood told the No Tippy Tappy Football channel.

“He runs around, the fans love him, he looks like he plays for the shirt and wants to play in that blue shirt.

“But he score two goals the other night and they were his first two goals of the season. That ain’t good enough. He needs more for a No 8. The return need to be better. I think it will come.”

Conor Gallagher the goalscorer

In fairness, we totally agree with Sherwood on this one.

Gallagher is an all-action midfielder that brings so much to Mauricio Pochettino’s side on and off the ball.

However, we do feel the 24-year-old’s got to weigh in with his fair share of goals, especially when he’s the most advanced of a midfield trio that includes Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Gallagher scored eight goals during a seasson-long loan at Crystal Palace a couple of years ago, where he proved he can be effecive arriving late into the box.

If he starts scoring more often, he should be one of the first names on the team sheet at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking via Instagram recently, Nicolas Jackson claimed there’s more to come from Gallagher.
