Alan Pardew jumps to defence of Chelsea man after Sheffield United draw

Chelsea find themselves facing criticism again after their 2-2 draw with Sheffield United yesterday.

There was a bit of positivity following their 4-3 victory against Manchester United last week.

Chelsea came back from 3-2 down to win the game thanks to a very late show from Cole Palmer, who scored a hat-trick on the night.

It should have been the same outcome against Sheffield United yesterday. But this time, the Blues were on the wrong side of the fightback that took place at Bramall Lane.

Oli McBurnie scored in the 93rd minute to make the score 2-2. It looked like Chelsea were heading for all three points after Noni Madueke’s beautiful strike put his side 2-1 up. Jason Cundy thought he was the only shining late that day.

Alan Pardew defends Chelsea man

Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew has been speaking about Chelsea following their 2-2 draw with Sheffield United.

While Pardew does not seem to be too concerned about the Blues’ attack right now, he is worried about their defence.

The club as a whole, though, the former Newcastle United boss has described them as a “mess”, defending manager Mauricio Pochettino while doing so.

On talkSPORT, he said: “They’re on a kind of decent little run at the moment, though, aren’t they? I don’t know the exact stats, but I know that their form has been OK.

“I don’t think you can actually judge any manager who went in the dressing room this year. You can’t really judge him and say he’s this, he’s that because it’s just been a mess.”

What happens to Mauricio Pochettino if Chelsea drop more points against Everton?

Chelsea’s next game is versus Everton at Stamford Bridge next Monday. Is it a must-win for Pochettino? Probably not.

At this point, it seems unlikely that the club would sack him. It is so late in the season now.

Chelsea also face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals afterwards. They will not want to chop and change before such a huge game.

Pochettino has probably earned the right to go to Wembley as well after getting the club there for a second time this season.
