Alan Pardew shares the big ‘concern’ he would have if he were Chelsea manager right now

Alan Pardew still has some doubts about Chelsea despite their impressive win against Liverpool last weekend.

Enzo Maresca‘s men were able to beat the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge, thanks to Estevao Willian.

With the score level at 1-1, the Brazilian popped up in the 95th minute to score a tap-in and win Chelsea the game.

It has been an indifferent start to the season, but Estevao is one reason for Chelsea to be positive right now.

Alan Pardew concerned about Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation

While Chelsea supporters will be pleased with Estevao, some will be disappointed with Robert Sanchez.

Sanchez had a good game against Liverpool, making some excellent passes, but he cost the Blues in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United after getting sent off in just the fifth minute.

For Pardew, the goalkeeper position at Chelsea is a bit of a problem and needs to be addressed. He sees Mike Penders as potentially being an option for them.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace manager said: “I think the one position, if I was the manager, that would concern me is the goalkeeper. I agree with Jamie on that front. I think that is a problem position.

“I’m not sure he’s really kind of answered all the questions and whether they bring the boy back from Strasburg or whatever is a question that might get answered in January.”

Chelsea also have Filip Jorgensen, but he has not always been convincing when called upon either.

Jorgensen really blew his chance against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup last month as he struggled to cope with the League One side’s aerial barrage.

What the French media recently said about Mike Penders

Chelsea will be happy with how Penders’ loan at Strasbourg is currently going. Chelsea have high hopes for Penders, and the 20-year-old is showing why.

Penders really impressed the French media with one of his performances earlier this month, helping Strasbourg to beat Slovan Bratislava in the Conference League. One outlet described his display as “confident” as he refused to be bullied in the air.

At some point, it looks like Penders will be Chelsea’s No.1. If Sanchez does not cut out the silly errors, perhaps it will happen very soon.

For now, the Belgian will be focusing on Strasbourg, who are set to have another strong season under Liam Rosenior. They are currently third in the Ligue 1 table.
