Alan Shearer hails Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo

Alan Shearer has selected his Premier League Team of the Week in his weekly segment, which sees one Chelsea player highlighted for his performance in the Brentford win.

Blues star Moises Caicedo, 23, has been praised and recognised for his individual contribution on Sunday night.

Shearer said via The Premier League’s official website: “Moises Caicedo (Chelsea). Chelsea’s midfield enforcer stood out again, winning tackles and regaining possession time and again in Brentford’s half. Thomas Frank’s side just couldn’t get out.”

Chelsea’s Caicedo won possession in the final third five times against Brentford, which is more than any other player has managed in the Premier League so far this season.

Moises Caicedo brilliance is becoming the norm

Chelsea fans raved about Caicedo’s display versus Brentford, but it’s become a common theme for him receiving high praise this season.

Unlike last year, there’s an incredible consistency to the midfield powerhouse this season. It feels inevitable going into every game that he’ll set the tone in the centre of the park, both with and without the ball.

Here is a look at Caicedo’s match ratings for his previous eight league appearances:

When you look at Chelsea’s options of Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia in the centre of the park, they’ve surely got the best selection of central midfielders in the division right now.
