Ally McCoist claims £50m Chelsea player has got so much worse recently

Ally McCoist has strongly criticised Raheem Sterling for his recent Chelsea performances.

It’s been a really difficult time lately for most of Chelsea’s players, including Raheem Sterling.

The Blues are currently on a six-game losing streak since Frank Lampard took charge as caretaker manager, with the team looking well off the pace in all areas.

For Sterling, his debut season at Stamford Bridge has grinded to a halt after positive signs at the start.

The 28-year-old winger is getting plenty of opportunities with regular starts under Lampard, but he’s scored just two Chelsea goals since the turn of the year.

TalkSPORT pundit McCoist barely recognises Sterling in his latest displays:

“What has happened to Raheem Sterling? He completely switches off [for the second goal]. In an attacking sense, he looks a shadow of the player,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

We’ve got to agree that the England international is going through a really poor period.

We suspect that Sterling would agree reading McCoist’s assessment.

In fact, Sterling said last week that he’s been performing “nowhere near” the levels that he expects this season.

The former Manchester City attacker actually hit the ground running in his first few Chelsea appearances, but he’s simply not done enough in the final third to warrant his £50million (BBC) price tag so far.

We haven’t given up hope that Sterling can perform a U-turn and come good in Chelsea colours, but there’s no way he warrants a spot in the starting line-up this weekend against Bournemouth.

We would like to see Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke play on the wings this Saturday.
