Ally McCoist thinks Chelsea started the weekend defeat to Tottenham with an incredibly talented defence.
The Blues suffered a 2-0 loss during the Premier League trip to Spurs, but it’s pretty common knowledge that the team’s main problem right now is scoring goals rather than conceding them.
Reece James and Ben Chilwell both started in the full-back positions, which is a partnership that has proven itself to be very effective in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, injuries often gets in the way of it.
In addition, Kalidou Koulibaly and Thiago Silva were the centre-back partners. It was a big blow to lose Silva with a first-half injury, though.

TalkSPORT pundit McCoist highlights that Chelsea do have a fantastic back four at their disposal:
“That back four at the weekend: James, Silva, Koulibaly, and Chilwell. Dear me, that’s a serious back four,” McCoist told talkSPORT.
Yes, it’s a pretty formidable line-up in Chelsea’s backline on paper.
We’ve not actually seen it too often this year, though.
Graham Potter’s rotation policy, which is sometimes forced and sometimes selected, means it’s difficult to predict the Chelsea XI each game.
We know there will be at least one enforced change to the back four in upcoming games because Thiago Silva has a problem that will see him miss a minimum of two matches.

If the back four mentioned above is at its peak, Chelsea should be rock solid and difficult to get past.
However, that’s going to do very little to help their main issue at the other end of the pitch where they can’t put the ball in the net.
Most Chelsea fans would agree James and Chilwell need to start every game moving forward. Potter is still to work out his preferred combination at centre-back, though.
