Pundit Ally McCoist has now shared whether he believes Chelsea should consider a managerial change off the back of their defeat in the EFL Cup final last night.

He told TalkSPORT (6:15am) that he believes some of the criticism heading Chelsea’s way, and in turn Pochettino’s, has been more than harsh.

Pochettino yesterday saw another chance to break his trophy duck in England go begging as they were defeated late by Liverpool.

The Blues missed a heap of chances in the game, and looked nervous towards the end as Jurgen Klopp’s side seized control.

The result let to some big criticism of the Blues, although McCoist does not feel like it is completely warranted.

McCoist on Pochettino being sacked

He said: “No, I think you’ve got to stick, I do. I don’t think change is a necessity, I don’t. What a chance they had to win a trophy.

“At the same time, I’m more in the camp that I give Liverpool more praise than giving Chelsea stick if I’m honest with you.

“Could Chelsea have won it? They had chances to win it, their finishing was poor.

“I mean the game could have gone either way, Liverpool’s disallowed goal, Jackson’s disallowed goal, which dear me, look how tight that was.

“And then you’ve got Van Dijk’s header, the game was on a knife edge and it was a flick of the coin.

“So, I’m certainly not going to be as critical of Chelsea and Pochettino as some of the pundits are. But, what an opportunity it was for him to get his first piece of silverware.”

The result will no doubt sting for a while for the players, however they do not have long to pick themselves up for another big game.

This time, old rivals Leeds United will be the confident visitors at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup.
