‘Amazing’: Mauricio Pochettino admits he is a big fan of manager who has been linked with move to Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has now claimed that he is a fan of one manager who has already been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during this season.

He told the Evening Standard that he has a lot of respect for Jose Mourinho, as well as the job that he did when he was in charge at Chelsea.

Pochettino is under pressure in his role as manager right now, with the Blues remaining in the bottom half of the Premier League table right now.

Combining that with defeat in embarrassing circumstances in the EFL Cup final against Liverpool has seen some supports lose faith in the boss.

The Argentine has been defiant in his response to any doubt over his role, with him coming out and firmly denying any rumours that he could consider leaving his position as the boss.

One of the names who has perhaps expectedly been linked with the role at the club is Mourinho, with his success at the club previously clearly leaving an impression on some.

His name has been chanted by supporters of the club in recent weeks, as they continue to ask for change at the helm.

Pochettino has admitted that he is a big fan of Mourinho, although he still firmly believes that the players are behind him and his staff.

He said: “I respect Jose. He’s my friend and he was amazing for this club. Circumstances are circumstances. We need to keep pushing, believing in us, and accept all the things that came from the fans. Of course, I respect the fans.

“You need to ask the players. If the players believe that with another coach they’ll do better, I am the first to say: ‘Hey, they can go and talk with the owner and the sporting director.’

“But do you see me worried about this? No. Look, is attitude a problem? No. They [the players] are clever enough; you can see in the way they behave and everything that they are behind us. There is no doubt.

“I came here because I knew that it was going to be tough but also knew we were going to need time and belief.”

A return to Stamford Bridge for Mourinho for the third time would really be a step back for the Blues, who are still keen for a manager to come in and work with a young and inexperienced squad.
