Chris Sutton suggests that Chelsea target Jude Bellingham will demand Champions League football if he leaves Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Bellingham, who’s still just 19, is strongly linked across various publications with a big transfer in 2023.

The Sun claimed this week that there’s a £130million transfer race ongoing to sign the Dortmund midfielder.

They add that Manchester City think they can win the transfer race ahead of rival suitors Chelsea, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to get him.

Bellingham will demand Champions League

Chris Sutton thinks that playing in Europe’s elite club competition will be a priority for Bellingham when deciding his next side.

Sutton has specifically been talking about the Liverpool interest in the 19-year-old:

“What would give Liverpool more of an advantage [of signing Bellingham] is if they finish in a Champions League spot. That’s a must,” he wrote for the Daily Mail.

“Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson might be besties but Bellingham doesn’t want to play for a club in the Europa League. He wants to be among the elite.”

Like Chelsea, Liverpool currently find themselves outside of the Premier League’s top four positions.

Both are still competing in this year’s Champions League tournament, with Graham Potter’s Blues side facing Dortmund in the knockout rounds.

However, the top-four race this year in England looks so tight.

The last time Dortmund failed to make the Bundesliga’s top four is the 2014/15 season, so the Germans are a very safe bet to give you Champions League opportunities. They do sit currently sit fifth this campaign, though.

For Bellingham, it’s only right he should have the pick of the clubs given his talent.

The box-to-box midfielder would be an outstanding coup for Chelsea, who really need to get their act together in the second half of the season to make these wonder signings possible.
