Danny Murphy suggests Chelsea’s Cole Palmer looks so much more confident receiving the ball than any of his teammates.
Cole Palmer, who cost Chelsea roughly £40million (Sky Sports) to sign from Manchester City in the summer, is already earning quite a lot of support from the fanbase.
The 21-year-old playmaker enjoyed a few cameos roles from the bench in his opening games at Stamford Bridge, but he’s impressed further with back-to-back starts in the past week. It doesn’t look like he’ll be leaving the starting line-up soon, too.
He’s a left-footed attacker with fantastic technical quality, and he’s bringing something extra to Mauricio Pochettino’s XI.

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy raved about Chelsea talent Palmer midway through Monday night’s 2-0 win away to Fulham in the Premier League.
He’s really liking what he’s seeing from the Blues forward, especially when he’s got the ball at his feet. It’s noticeable to him that Man City’s academy graduate is better in possession than teammates due to his upbringing in the sport.
When discussing Palmer, Murphy told talkSPORT (8:52pm, 2 October): “He’s got great belief in himself, and he wants the ball all the time. I never expected anything else from a lad who’s been schooled at Manchester City under Pep [Guardiola].
“He doesn’t mind taking the ball anywhere on the pitch, first and foremost, which is a wonderful quality. His intelligence of movement, which is short and sharp, is sometimes inside and sometimes out.
“He looks like a player who has come from Manchester City compared to some of the other Chelsea players. Really assured in himself.”

There’s a lot of technically gifted footballers scattered around this Chelsea group, but Pochettino will need to work a lot harder with some than others to get that to come across on the pitch.
The confidence of this group is going to be low because of the turmoil at the club in the past year. However, it’s been refreshing to see a player like Palmer walk into the XI and immediately inject a spark.
Incidentally, Palmer is a player previously compared to James Maddison by Joe Cole ( TNT Sports).
