Aaron Anselmino is one of those young signings Chelsea have made under Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

Since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over Chelsea, the club have really explored the South American market for talent.

By doing so, the Blues have ended up with the likes of Aaron Anselmino, who is still just 19, Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez.

Anselmino is now set to join the Chelsea first team, bringing his time at Boca Juniors to an end. Blues supporters may not know a lot about the defender, but there is one Argentine football legend who does.

Juan Roman Riquelme backs Aaron Anselmino to reach the top

It is fair to say that Boca president and former Argentina international Juan Roman Riquelme is a massive fan of Anselmino.

When he spoke to ESPN about the centre-back, he said: “He has developed a lot. With the growth, the head that he has and the desire to learn that he shows, he is on his way to being a great footballer. He is going to be a player for the national team. He is going to compete with the centre-backs.”

Anselmino obviously has a lot of potential, so Riquelme’s prediction about him becoming a great player one day and an Argentina international may very well come true.

Compatriot Enzo Fernandez believes that Anselmino can make it at Chelsea, saying as much during the summer.

Aaron Anselmino can’t join Strasbourg

While Anselmino may be returning to Chelsea, it may be too soon for him to be part of Enzo Maresca‘s group.

If Chelsea believe that to be the case, then they are likely to find a loan move for the youngster. However, as of now, he will definitely not be joining sister club Strasbourg.

The Ligue 1 outfit currently have Andrey Santos, Djordje Petrovic and Caleb Wiley on their books — all on loan from Chelsea. It means they cannot loan another player from Stamford Bridge, unless one of the trio returns.

It will now be interesting to see what Chelsea do with Anselmino. Whatever they have in store, the former Boca star could have a bright future in west London. The club just have to get his development right.
