While Chelsea fans are hoping for nothing but success for many of their players on loan this season, there is perhaps one who doesn’t fit into that mold.

Raheem Sterling was nowhere near the first team plans at Stamford Bridge this season, with Enzo Maresca telling him as much over the summer.

Being left out the squad for the first game of the season was too much for the England international, and on deadline day he found himself a loan move to Arsenal.

After a quiet start, Sterling scored his first goal for the club in the Carabao Cup tie against Bolton.

He also picked up an assist for promising youngster Ethan Nwaneri, who was on the scoresheet twice in the 5-1 win.

Arsenal fans couldn’t help but poke fun at their London rivals for one of theirs having a strong performance for them.

One user said: “Raheem Sterling with a goal and an assist on his first start for the club. This is what happens when you leave Chelsea for the best team in London.”

Another added: “Chelsea paid 250k to Raheem Sterling this week for him to score & assist for Arsenal.”

The Red Army said: “Raheem Sterling got more love from Arsenal fans than he ever did at Chelsea.”

Av claimed: “Raheem Sterling has looked great today. Beautiful assist earlier and a goal now!”

Finally, Adam Keys said: “Raheem Sterling’s movement, his ability to be constantly on his toes and spring in behind at any opportunity was a joy to watch.

“His attacking IQ allows him to find space with ease, and his profile addresses a gap in this Arsenal squad. Ødegaard and Merino will love him.”

Chelsea will currently feel completely fine with their attacking options without Sterling, with a number of them stepping up under Maresca so far.

Their own Carabao Cup tie this week saw all of their attackers record a goal contribution, even though none of them started the last Premier League game against West Ham.

Pedro Neto has admitted he is not yet at his best, however Chelsea fans will certainly not be disappointed with what they have seen from him so far.
