Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez has the potential to one day become as good as Cesc Fabregas.
That is according to Blues teammate Axel Disasi.
Enzo Fernandez, 23, is a high-profile midfielder that has already achieved so much in his short career.
The Argentine star was a World Cup winner with his country in 2022. He also earned a mega £107million transfer move to Stamford Bridge almost a year ago (BBC).
Chelsea fans have enjoyed in flashes some brilliance from Fernandez during his first 12 months in English football, but it does feel like he’s still yet to fully justify a £100m price tag.

Chelsea centre-back Disasi, 25, has real faith in his teammate to achieve big things in his career. He’s even compared Fernandez to legendary Spanish figure Cesc Fabregas.
“Enzo Fernandez can reach Fabregas’s level. He is a player who has great quality, is still young and has the whole future ahead of him. So of course, he can,” Disasi told Capital Football.
Enzo Fernandez can be as good as Cesc Fabregas
It’s certainly a lofty ambition to try replicate the success that Fabregas had in his playing career. We want to see Chelsea’s Fernandez shooting for the stars, though.
Now retired, Fabregas was one of the best central midfielders of his generation.
The 36-year-old was a midfield superstar across spells with Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona. Let’s not forget 110 Spain caps and huge success representing his country, too.
In fairness, we’d love to see Fernandez model his game on the version of Fabregas that shined in Chelsea colours between 2014-19. He used to pull the strings as the deep-lying playmaker with his incredible vision and range of passing.
Journalist Simon Phillips reported via Substack last month that Real Madrid have eyes on Fernandez as a target in 2024. However, we’re desperate for him to stay and fulfil his potential in a Chelsea shirt.
