Chelsea defender Axel Disasi has shared what teammate Ben Chilwell told him just a day before his debut.

He told Sky Sports that the Englishman had called that he was going to score his first goal for the club as he made his first appearance.

Disasi was a shock inclusion for the Blues this afternoon as Mauricio Pochettino switched his system up in an attempt to confuse Liverpool.

They came out of it with a point, although certainly the happier side as they threatened a winner against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Frenchman was assured throughout at the back, especially after what had been an intense start made by their opponents.

His appearance saw the Blues line up in a different system to the one that they had operated in during the pre-season campaign where they went unbeaten in the United States.

However, they looked comfortable throughout and fluid enough to see players like Chilwell in particular pick up advanced roles.

It was noticeable when the traditional left-back was skipping past the goalkeeper to score the eventual disallowed goal that there was plenty going on under the surface from Pochettino.

Disasi will be happy with his display overall, and the goal saw him let out a passionate celebration. He has now claimed he was already told by Chilwell that he would score.

He said: “Chilly yesterday told me I was going to score today, so I’m very happy and proud!”

The vice-captain added: “We did set pieces yesterday and he was putting all the deliveries away so I just said that he was going to score!”

It will be interesting to see if the Frenchman is the one dropped if the manager returns to his more traditional back four going forwards.
