BBC pundit claims £60k-a-week Chelsea player is sometimes a ‘liability’ for them

Chelsea’s first-team player has just received some strong criticism after his recent performance in the Liverpool defeat.

Chelsea suffered a small setback in the Premier League at the weekend by losing 2-1 at Anfield. As a result, they’ve dropped to sixth in the division table.

The Blues squad is showing lots of potential this year as they impress under Enzo Maresca’s management, but the evidence is there that they’ve fallen short against both Liverpool and Manchester City in the opening months of the season.

Frank Lampard thought Chelsea were brave at Liverpool, but admits they need to be more dynamic in the big fixtures.

Nigel Reo-Coker critical of Robert Sanchez

BBC pundit and former Premier League midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has fired criticism at Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez after his latest performance.

The £60,000-a-week goalkeeper (Spotrac) didn’t shine in Sunday’s league defeat away to Liverpool. In particular, he was slow off his line for Curtis Jones’ winning goal.

When discussing Sanchez on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, Reo-Coker said: “Sometimes he can be a liability for Chelsea. He is a top shot stopper but there are too many mistakes in him and lapses of concentration.

“They need to improve in the goalkeeping area for them to talk about winning Premier League titles.”

All eyes on Robert Sanchez

The microscope should be firmly on Sanchez due to his up and down start to the campaign, where he’s gone from hero to zero pretty quickly.

The 26-year-old Spanish goalkeeper has re-established himself as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, but he’s now made some high-profile errors to go along with a string of excellent saves. The unpredictability is certainly something you want to avoid in your number one keeper.

GiveMeSport recently claimed that Chelsea are prepared to give Sanchez more time.

We’re certainly watching Sanchez closely to see if he cuts out the mistakes and finds some consistency. Also, his game simply most improve when he’s playing out from the back because he looks vulnerable with the ball at his feet.
