Former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given was certainly not impressed with what one Chelsea loanee did on Saturday.
During the summer, Chelsea loaned out a lot of their players, including the likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Raheem Sterling and Trevoh Chalobah.
Kepa and Sterling actually faced off against each other on Saturday after Arsenal travelled to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth.
Bournemouth won the game 2-0, but it could have been a different scoreline if a mistake from Kepa was capitalised on by Arsenal.
Shay Given slams Kepa Arrizabalaga for almost giving goal away
Bournemouth had an advantage during their game against Arsenal after William Saliba was sent off in the first half.
However, the Cherries almost wasted it after Kepa presented the Gunners with a golden opportunity to score following a poor pass.
He redeemed himself after saving the shot that came from his mistake, but Given was less than impressed with him.
Speaking about Kepa on BBC’s Match of the Day, he said: “I think Kepa tried to give them a goal, didn’t he? It was a poor pass from Kepa at the back. You see, it goes back to him, there is no real danger. He is very casual, the goalkeeper, and it’s a very poor pass.”
Bournemouth fans were quite excited by Kepa’s arrival, with the south coast club signing him on loan from Chelsea at the end of August.
Bad weekend for Robert Sanchez and Chelsea
Chelsea’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, was also unconvincing over the weekend.
His distribution was not great, while he could have perhaps come out quicker to deal with Curtis Jones before his winner for Liverpool against Chelsea.
Jamie Carragher thought Sanchez was really poor during that bit of play, which proved decisive in the end.
With Sanchez yet to fully convince at Chelsea since arriving at the club from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, some will feel that the Spaniard needs replacing.
Kepa is not the answer, though. He has not been for a while and showed why with his sloppy mistake against Arsenal. Fortunately for him, it was not costly for his team.
His next Premier League game is against Aston Villa, while his parent club welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge.
