‘Behind the scenes’… Journalist shares what he’s heard about Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has endured a mixed start during his first few months as Chelsea head coach.

The Blues have continued the trend this season of going from exceptional to appalling in a matter of days, which is why they’re mid-table in the Premier League right now.

There’s no doubt that Mauricio Pochettino, 51, is making his mark on the side by picking a fairly regular XI. We’re seeing the likes of Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling thrive since his appointment.

However, Chelsea won’t reach where they want to be until there’s consistent performances and results.

Journalist Paul Brown has reported this week that there’s every indication from behind the scenes that Chelsea want to stick with Pochettino in the manager’s dugout.

We suspect a lot of supporters will be glad to hear the Argentine boss will get an extended period to try crack the Chelsea code.

Brown told GiveMeSport: “It’s going to take time. I still believe Pochettino is the right man for Chelsea. He’s fitted in quite nicely there. I just think he has a really tough job because they’ve signed all of these players and yet there are still holes in the squad. They’ve been through a huge turnover of players both in and out. And that’s not easy, because he’s had to try and fit a lot of new faces and personalities and styles of play into his system.

“There is going to need to be some patience with him. You’d hope that the owners see things are moving in the right direction and show that kind of patience. There’s every indication that they will, because all the talk behind the scenes is that they want to give Pochettino time.”

We think Pochettino will now be aware that he’s taken on a massive challenge at the Chelsea helm.

It feels like this current side is still a long way off the top clubs in this country, so how much time will the ownership give him to bridge the gap?

TEAMtalk recently claimed that Pochettino is ‘under increasing pressure’ at Chelsea due to the risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.

Let’s wait and see how the division shapes up at the halfway point after the festive schedule, but it does feel like a long way off to the Champions League spots this term.
