Chelsea star Ben Chilwell has shared details of instructions from Mauricio Pochettino about what he should do when Levi Colwill has the ball.
We won’t know for sure until Chelsea line-up is announced on Sunday against Liverpool., but most supporters have a pretty good guess about how the back four will look at the start of the season.
Newly-appointed captain Reece James feels guaranteed at right-back, while veteran centre-half Thiago Silva could take the right channel as he continues to impress. That may leave Levi Colwill as the centre-back and Ben Chilwell at left-back.
Colwill, who’s just 20, is the new face to the Blues defence after his great rise in the past two years. The left-footed defender is an exquisite passer of the ball so it’s interesting to hear comments from his teammate.
Blues full-back Chilwell has shared that Pochettino was giving him different instructions during pre-season of what to do when Colwill was in possession.
For instance, there were times he was asked to press very high up the pitch as an attack-minded full-back. There were others times the head coach asked him to tuck in next to his centre-back, though.
“I think it was the Brighton game he wanted me a lot higher when Levi [Colwill] had the ball, and then the Borussia Dortmund game he wanted me to kind of drop more next to Levi where I was more in the build-up,” Chilwell told talkSPORT.
“So like I mentioned earlier, it kind of depends on the opposition.”
