Ben Foster tells £25m Chelsea player he wasn’t brave enough vs Liverpool

Ben Foster has told Chelsea’s player he should have been “braver” during the weekend defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Chelsea returned straight after the international break with a 2-1 loss away to rivals Liverpool, which means they’ve dropped to sixth in the division standings.

In fairness, speaking via Liverpool’s official website after the game, Reds manager Arne Slot still rated Chelsea’s top-four chances very highly.

Ben Foster claims Robert Sanchez wasn’t brave enough

Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has criticised Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez after Sunday’s defeat away to Liverpool.

He explained that the 26-year-old Blues keeper should have been braver off his line to prevent Liverpool’s winning goal from Curtis Jones.

Foster said on his YouTube channel: “The winning goal from Curtis Jones. I feel that he needs to be a bit braver here, Robert. He needs to really dive at the ball. He needs to be prepared to get a kick in the face. He has to chuck himself at Curtis Jones.”

Sanchez, who cost Chelsea £25m (BBC), is definitely under pressure from the fanbase because of several individual errors already this season.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, Nigel Reo-Coker claimed Sanchez can sometimes be a “liability”.

Filip Jorgensen should be desperate to impress

With question marks hanging over Sanchez’s head right now, Chelsea’s back-up goalkeeper should be so eager to do well.

Filip Jorgensen, 22, is the second-choice gloveman at Stamford Bridge currently playing in the various cup competitions. If he can catch the eye in the cup matches, we think he could push hard to break into the Premier League XI.

In his four appearances this season, Jorgensen has looked very composed with the ball at his feet and he ticks a lot of boxes as a young shot-stopper.

Sanchez ended up losing his starting position to Djordje Petrovic midway through last season, and perhaps something similar will happen this campaign.
