‘Better off without’: Neil Warnock thinks Chelsea should look to get rid of player who Tuchel signed

Neil Warnock believes Chelsea would be benefit more from letting go of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Warnock suggested to Graham Potter that he attempt to part ways with the experienced striker as soon as possible.

Potter made a decent go at severing ties with Aubameyang in the recent 1-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City.

The 33-year-old forward was substituted on Thursday with just over 20-minutes remaining.

This was a black mark against his name considering Chelsea were behind at this stage and in need of a goal.

But the matter was made worse by the fact the Gabon international had already been substituted into the fixture to replace the injured Raheem Sterling.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s problems amplified at Chelsea

Aubameyang’s manager blamed ‘fatiguing’ for the reason he had to be subbed as a sub, although Potter could’ve easily pointed towards the attacker’s poor performance as well.

He hardly touched the ball during his hour stint on the Stamford Bridge pitch, admittedly hindered by City’s overall dominance of possession.

However, even had Pep Guardiola’s side regularly relinquished the ball, it’s possible Chelsea’s number nine would’ve done little with it.

His minimal contribution can either be blamed on fatigue, as claimed by Potter, a lack of form or, as Warnock claimed, simply an absence of caring.

“You get players like that and you are better off without them. People like him are after themselves really, they look after themselves as players and they’ll throw the manager under the bus rather than take any blame,” said the former Middlesbrough manager.

“It’s similar to what’s happened with (Cristiano) Ronaldo at Man United. I don’t think he’ll (Aubameyang) ever change; you know from Arsenal to Chelsea, now he looks the same type of player. On his day, as good as you’ll see, but his days are few and far between.”

A few years ago, being compared to Ronaldo was the highest compliment in football.

But after his fall from grace, very few would want to be put in the same bracket as the Portugal international.

Unfortunately, Aubameyang is rather suiting the criteria right now.
