Reported Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol has revealed his love for Real Madrid.

Speaking to Spanish journalist Sergio Fernandez, the RB Leipzig player did not shy away from speaking glowingly about the Spanish championships.

Madrid would not be blamed for wanting to reciprocate the respect demonstrated by the young defender.

Gvardiol has rather quickly risen to prominence since moving to Germany in 2020.

He is amongst the most promising and talented centre-backs on the planet right now.

The 20-year-old demonstrated his abilities to the globe yesterday evening, as he helped Croatia battle off Belgium to draw 0-0 at the World Cup.

His tackling and passing impressed many watching on, with Romelu Lukaku denied by a last-ditch interception late on in the fixture.

Keep up this good form into the knockout stages of the tournament, and Croatia might be indebted to Gvardiol for potentially reaching another final.

On a personal level, the more excellent performances he churns out, the more likely he is to be rewarded with a move away from Leipzig.

If his recent admission is anything to go by, Madrid is the location he’d love to land in.

“Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world, so who knows… maybe one day I can play there. I would like to, yes,” admitted Gvardiol when asked about the club’s apparently interested in his services.

“Luka (Modric) doesn’t have to tell me anything about Real Madrid, there’s no need. I already know everything, I know it’s the biggest club in the world and how important it is to be linked to such a team.”

That’s got to hurt if you are of a Chelsea persuasion.

Especially as Todd Boehly is seemingly assured he will seal Gvardiol’s signature once the World Cup concludes.

Boehly is eyeing up another bid for the Croatian international, having reportedly failed with a £77m offer in the summer.

Leipzig may well want to squeeze even more money out of the Stamford Bridge owner, now their central-defender is in such high demand.
