Conor Gallagher admits that the only meaningful chance Chelsea carved out against Newcastle United was a weak one.
As quoted by the 5th Stand, the midfielder cursed himself for not putting more power behind the strike that Nick Pope saved pretty comfortably.
Gallagher’s curling effort just past the hour mark was the one real sight of goal Graham Potter’s men managed all evening.
Just two minutes later, Newcastle sprung another attack through Miguel Almiron, who’s surging run set-up Joe Willock’s delicious drive past Edouard Mendy.
It was the least the Magpies deserved for their effort and endeavour at Saint James’ Park yesterday.
They bossed the Blues virtually from start to finish, and were worthy recipients of the three points.
But had Gallagher converted from outside of the area, the story line could’ve been entirely different.

“I thought it was a bit of a soft shot to be honest and knowing how big Pope is, he got across to cover the goal well,” confessed the Chelsea player.
“I was obviously hoping it would creep in, which would have been nice. When you’re not playing well and you get a goal, it brings you back in the game and gives a chance to go and win the game.
“As it turned out, we conceded soon after that chance and that’s really disappointing from our perspective.”
Disappointing has been the word to describe Chelsea in the last few weeks.
Three Premier League losses in a row, with an early exit from the Carabao Cup chucked in for good measure, has left the club in a sour state.
Whilst Newcastle might not want the World Cup break due to their upwards momentum, Potter will be glad for a month or so of recollection and reconsolidation.
