Former Arsenal and Manchester City star David Seaman has actually been full of praise for one Chelsea player despite their loss at Wembley on Sunday.

He told ‘Seaman Says that he thought that goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic had a fantastic showing against Liverpool despite coming out on the losing side in the League Cup final.

Petrovic was arguably Chelsea’s player of the match last weekend as the Blues fell at the final hurdle of the cup in devastating fashion.

They were defeated 1-0 after extra-time, with manager Mauricio Pochettino seeing his wait to win a trophy in England forced to go on.

He will probably deep down know that a number of his top players didn’t show up to their true potential at Wembley, with Cole Palmer a player in particular who had one of his weakest outings since moving to the club.

One player who certainly doesn’t fit into this category though is Petrovic, who made a string of top saves across the 120 minutes.

Seaman praises Petrovic

Seaman was a figure in the media who has particularly impressed with his display, noting in particular the save he made late to deny Luis Diaz.

He said: “The save that he made from Diaz at the back post, that was a brilliant foot save, right on the line and then he managed to get the rebound and everything along with a clout to the head. He made some really good saves.”

It is likely that the 24-year-old remains between the sticks tomorrow night, when the Blues return to action at Stamford Bridge.

They are quickly back into cup action, as they take on old rivals Leeds United in the FA Cup.

Even though Robert Sanchez is back amongst the first team squad, Petrovic should be one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Blues right now.
