Jason Cundy hailed Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher after his winning goal in tonight’s victory over Leeds United.
The Blues secured a much-needed win against Leeds United in the fifth round of the FA Cup. As a result, they host Leicester City in the quarter finals.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were under big pressure going into Wednesday night’s match following the defeat to Liverpool in the weekend’s League Cup final.
It looked like the cup tie with Leeds was destined for extra time tonight with the game evenly poised at 2-2. However, substitute Conor Gallagher popped up with a 90th minute winning goal to secure the 3-2 scoreline.

Jason Cundy shared his delight with Blues midfielder Gallagher after his winning strike. Incidentally, that’s now four goals in his last five games as he hits a purple patch in front of goal.
“What a brilliant finish… He’s spun and received the ball with his back to goal. It’s in his stride and a great finish. I’m so pleased for him,” Cundy said via Chelsea’s 5th Stand App (9:26pm).
Conor Gallagher winner
We know Gallagher was one of the guilty parties that didn’t take their shooting boots to Wembley versus Liverpool, but he turned up this evening with a clutch goal.
When he’s scoring goals like he is recently, he looks like the complete midfielder and such a key weapon in the squad.
It’s remarkable to see there’s still rumours about his future potentially being away from Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher, along with Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk, scored goals tonight that highlight the quality they do have.
It wasn’t the prettiest of 90 minutes against a Leeds team with a lot of quality, but ultimately the result was the most important thing to keep the season alive. Now, they’re still competing for a trophy and can try to climb the league table as well.
