‘Cannot understand’: Tuchel says he can’t believe what Chelsea player is reportedly trying to do right now

Thomas Tuchel admitted he was slightly dismayed by Andreas Christensen’s apparent decision to leave Chelsea.

Tuchel delivered his verdict on the Dane’s reported situation during a press conference yesterday.

Understandably, the German coach had to answer several questions about Christensen’s potential departure, which has widely hit the headlines in the past few days.

Should we be cross at Chris?

The 25-year-old is apparently on the verge of joining Barcelona once his contract expires in the summer, with the move a matter of when not if.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there remains ‘no doubt’ about his decision to swap Chelsea for the Camp Nou.

Despite his father’s wishes, Christensen looks like he wants to taste the Spanish water, viewing his cup almost empty at Stamford Bridge.

Whilst fans of the Blues have tried to remain positive about the defender’s future, deep down, they’ve probably known for a while the end was in sight.

The feeling of uncertainty started when the centre-back changed agent and therefore altered his stance on signing a new deal.

Tuchel tells it straight as always

It’s certainly left a cloud over the player’s head, one that won’t clear until either he confirms leaving Chelsea or announces his allegiance.

For Tuchel, the latter response is the only one he wants to hear right now.

“I cannot understand if he leaves at exactly this moment. But like I said, it is not my decision and I would not be personally affected by it,” declared the Blues boss.

“He stays my player and that is it. We are talking about sports and sometimes you need to swallow a defeat.”

Although Christensen hasn’t played much recently, he still remains a core part of Chelsea’s group.

He rose to prominence not long after Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard last January.

Thiago Silva’s injury in February allowed the Denmark international to step up and step up he most certainly did.

When Silva had to be substituted off early in the Champions League final, guess who replaced him?

With Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta also teetering on the verge of an exit, Christensen would be an even bigger loss.

Especially now the signing of Jules Kounde is up in the air, due to Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell the club.

Just stay, Andreas, it would make life a lot easier!
