Andreas Christensen’s father is reportedly keen for his son to stay at Chelsea.

According to Sport, Sten, both parent and agent to the defender, had hoped his kin would remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of his contract.

Unfortunately, it seems Christensen Sr’s wishes will not be answered.

Christensen happy to change his spots

Andreas has apparently already decided upon the next footballing destination once his deal with the Champions League holders expires in May.

Sport state that the 25-year-old wants to play for Barcelona, with the Spanish side eager to snap him up as a free agent.

The centre-back’s mind appears to be made up, even despite the resistance of Sten.

Christensen Jnr has been edging towards the exit door for some time now.

Talks over extending his stay in South West London took a snag when he changed agent and therefore changed his mind.

Chelsea offered him a new contract last August and haven’t since wavered from that initial proposal, causing the player to scour the market for alternatives.

Bayer Munich were mentioned as possible suitors, but Barcelona might just pip them to the post.

They are intent on signing those who will be available for no upfront cost, due to their own sticky financial situation.

Hence why they are after Christensen and fellow Chelsea teammate, Cesar Azpilicueta.

Azpi and Andreas in the same boat

Azpilicueta’s deal with the Blues also runs out at the end of the season, a scenario the Spanish club are keen to pounce upon.

Whilst the Spaniard still hasn’t decided whether he should remain in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for another term or two, the same cannot be said for Christensen.

Fabrizio Romano reported that a verbal agreement is already in place between the Dane and Barca, with a five-year contract on the table.

Even though we still cannot understand why anyone would exchange Chelsea for the Camp Nou right now, we must respect Andreas’ wishes.

Although you should really listen to your father!
