Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is playing much better right now than Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist.

When England fans build their dream Three Lions squad for Euro 2024 this summer, our guess is the majority would include both Cole Palmer and Marcus Rashford in a 23-man group.

Palmer, 21, has made a phenomenal impact so far during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. The right-winger, who sometimes plays centrally as an attacking playmaker, has 13 goals and 11 assists in 33 Chelsea appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Rashford’s been playing at the top level for Man United for a long time, mainly as a left-winger or striker. He’s only got seven goals and six assists for his club so far this season, though.

McCoist has given huge praise to Chelsea’s Palmer for his impact at club level.

He even made an interesting comparison between him and England teammate Rashford, claiming the Chelsea attacker is outperforming his Man United counterpart.

“I thought he was the best player on the pitch [against Newcastle]. Terrific, took his goal well and hits it early,” McCoist told talkSPORT (6:10am, 12 March).

When asked if Palmer’s got a chance of going to the Euros, McCoist responded: “He must have a chance. It depends what Gareth [Southgate] does… Cole Palmer has been absolutely terrific… You’ve got to say Cole Palmer’s form is certainly better than the likes of Rashford and boys like that.”

We’d like to think regular Premier League watchers will know Palmer’s been well clear of Rashford in this 2023/24 season so far.

However, don’t overlook the fact that Man United’s inconsistent forward has previous with England and that could be valuable going into a major international tournament.

For Palmer, just booking a spot on the England plane for the Euros would count as a big success. Let’s remember he’s only aged 21.

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is the only Under-21 player in Europe that can match Palmer for this season’s tally of combined goals and assists this season.
