Cesar Azpilicueta thinks Chelsea teammate Thiago Silva has been “amazing” this season.

It’s been a very dull 2022/23 campaign for the Blues, who finished 12th in the Premier League without any kind of silverware

However, Thiago Silva was a rare shining light for supporters to enjoy watching at Stamford Bridge.

The 38-year-old veteran centre-back may be the oldest in the Chelsea squad, but he outperformed his teammates to be voted by his peers the club’s Players’ Player of the Season. Incidentally, he clinched the fan votes as well in their pick for Player of the Season.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicuta, 33, has spoken very highly about fellow defender Silva:

“I’m here to give this award for Players’ Player of the Season to Thiago Silva after his amazing season. The way he has performed in every game, his consistency, top class, so I think it’s very well deserved,” Azpilicueta said.

We fully agree that Silva has led the way for his teammates with his consitency.

Unfortunately, not enough Chelsea players have got anywhere near his standards this season.

Silva recently said that he wants to spend another couple of years at Chelsea, which should be music to the ears of supporters.

We’re still waiting for the Brazilian defender to slow down at his age, but while he’s still performing like this it’s a no-brainer to keep him and play him.

Dean Saunders made the bizarre claim recently that Silva’s legs have nearly gone and that he needs replacing.

If you watch the defender every week, you can see he’s still such a composed individual that can help a lot at the start of Mauricio Pochettino’s new era as the manager.
