Chelsea completed their first signing of the summer yesterday with the capture of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, which prompted responses from midfield magicians Cesc Fabregas and Kevin De Bruyne.
The Blues announced the £47.5million signing of Sterling on Wednesday on a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
He’s waved goodbye to Premier League champions Man City after seven successful years with them, which included four league crowns and a PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The 27-year-old attacker, who’s been described as a “world-class talent” by Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly, is a big upgrade to Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
All eyes will be on the England star to see if he can immediately inject more goals to the Blues frontline.
Sterling signing
This certainly feels like a big signing, especially as it’s taken place between two of the Premier League’s top clubs.
On paper, Sterling’s a world-class forward that should be about to enter the prime years of his career.
He hit double figures for goals across all competitions in each of his seven seasons at Man City, with his highlight coming in the 2019/20 campaign when he bagged 31 times in all competitions.
Chelsea haven’t been able to bank on a consistent goalscorer for some time, but they’ve now got an England international that joins with real pedgiree.
De Bruyne and Fabregas react
Man City star Kevin De Bruyne, who played for seven seasons alongside Sterling, sounds absolutely gutted to be losing him as a teammate.
“We came 7 years ago together to this club to win trophies together and play good football and we achieved that. Was a pleasure to play with you. Wishing you all the best in future bro,” De Bruyne wrote on Instagram.
Meanwhile, ex-Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas couldn’t contain his excitement on Instagram after hearing his former club’s first transfer activity of the summer.
“What a signing,” he wrote.
