Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea have added a brand new name to their shortlist of potential strikers to come in this summer.

He told his Substack that the Blues are weighing up a move for Bayern Munich talent Mathys Tel, with him seemingly being too good to be second choice.

Tel has emerged as a serious talent this season, however he is up against one of the best strikers in world football.

Harry Kane has continued his goal scoring form since moving to Germany, and this has left the 18-year-old struggling for a regular role at the club.

The England captain has been full of praise for the youngster though, saying he’s a big fan of the way he trains and his commitment.

Phillips has now claimed that the striker is one of the names on the list for Chelsea, with them looking to make an addition up top in the summer.

Chelsea want Tel

He said: “Chelsea have added Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel to their striker shortlist for the summer.

“At the moment this is largely just scouting; taking a deep look at his data, back at old performances, and a host of other research. No contact has been made anywhere yet, but Chelsea are just taking a look at Tel as a potential option amongst the other names below.

“Chelsea might be sensing an opportunity with Tel now playing second fiddle to Harry Kane at Bayern this season.

“It’s been reported that Tel wants more playing time and has been seeking assurances from Bayern. At this point we have no idea how attainable he would be, but I am sure Bayern will also be keen to keep hold of the rising star who also has 4 caps for France U21s. Manchester United also have a reported interest in Tel.”

Chelsea are considering a number of names for the role, with Victor Osimhen thought to be at the top of the list.

However, recent interest from PSG could make that deal a lot more difficult to pull off, with them looking to replace Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season.
