Chelsea are only likely to make a move in the upcoming January transfer window if the perfect opportunity comes up to bolster their squad.

The Blues spent big money plugging the gaps they felt needed doing so during the summer window, with Pedro Neto in particular proving to be an undroppable member of the first team squad right now.

One position they did not spend big money investing in was defence, with the normal starting back four all being at the club last season.

Chelsea brought in Tosin Adarabioyo on a free, as well as youngster Renato Veiga who has impressed greatly when given an opportunity for both club and country.

It feels as if young and up and coming stars are going to be on the agenda for the Blues when making signings, and one of those being linked is Joel Ordonez.

According to Expreso, Chelsea are ‘one step away’ from completing a deal to sign the 20-year-old, who has featured in the Champions League this season.

The central defender has been impressing in Belgium for Club Brugge, and started at the back for Ecuador last night in their 1-0 win over Colombia.

He played alongside Moises Caicedo, and will have a familiar face straight away if he was to move to Stamford Bridge.

CaughtOffside have claimed a deal could be done for a fee of around £25m, which could be seen as a bargain in the future.

Ordonez could replace Josh Acheampong at Chelsea

Chelsea could be about to lose one of their most promising academy prospects in the form of Josh Acheampong.

Reports claimed that Acheampong was not happy he didn’t get more minutes for the first team when both Reece James and Malo Gusto were suffering with injuries.

Chelsea have frozen the youngster out as a result now, with there yet to be any real positive updates regarding him staying at the club.

Ordonez started at right-back for his nation last night, suggesting he can feature in the positions the Cobham graduate also can.

A number of top clubs have previously been linked to signing him if he was to leave. Real Madrid have even been linked to Acheampong.
