Chelsea have confidence that their first-team player has massive potential, even though he’s struggled to break into the starting line-up this season.
Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea manager, is starting to deal with his first bit of criticism during his time in club’s dugout. This comes because his team only have one win in their previous seven Premier League games.
The Italian head coach has been sticking with a similar core of players, so let’s see if decides to turn to some fresh faces in the Blues squad.
Ian Wright didn’t like when Maresca silenced the Chelsea title talk earlier in the season. They’ve gone from possible title challengers to a side sitting sixth in the league table in just over a month.

The Chelsea hierarchy massively rates Filip Jorgensen
According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s hierarchy think that their goalkeepers Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders both have ‘elite potential’.
Even though Robert Sanchez is struggling right now in his role as the Blues first-choice keeper, the club isn’t desperate to go out and sign a new shot-stopper before the January transfer window closes because they’ve got faith in what’s already on the books.
Jorgensen, 22, is currently the understudy in-between the sticks to Sanchez. Meanwhile, Penders is officially still a Genk player ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Jason Cundy insists Chelsea need to drop Sanchez after a string of high-profile errors in goal.
If Sanchez does come out of the firing line, Jorgensen would be his natural replacement to start. However, he’s only started two Premier League matches so far during his debut season with the Blues.
| Competition | Appearances | Clean sheets |
| Conference League | 6 | 1 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 1 |
| Premier League | 2 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 | 1 |
| FA Cup | 1 | 1 |

Should Filip Jorgensen start for Chelsea?
Sanchez has had more than enough opportunities to prove himself in Chelsea colours, but he’s fluffed his line on several occasions. Therefore, it seems like the obvious time for Maresca to change his starting goalkeeper.
Jorgensen, who cost the Blues £21m (BBC) from Villarreal last summer, deserves his shot to start a run of matches.
Speaking back in November, Peter Crouch insisted Chelsea goalkeeper Jorgensen deserved a crack in the Premier League after some impressive displays in Europe this season in the Conference League.
Fans will learn a lot more about Jorgensen under the big lights of the Premier League, but the signs are that he’s ready to seize his opportunity. The young gloveman is comfortable with the ball at his feet, plus he’s agile and capable of spectacular saves.
Unless Chelsea find a new solution in goal, the second half of the season will be a struggle for them.
