Thomas Tuchel has expressed his disappointment over the Premier League board’s decision to allow Sunday’s match between Chelsea and Wolves to go ahead despite the visitors’ Covid-19 cases.
The game at Molineux Stadium ended in a rather dull goalless draw.
The fact that Chelsea had only six players on the bench, including two goalkeepers, was arguably the highlight of the afternoon’s game.
Aside from N’Golo Kante and Trevoh Chalobah, Tuchel did not have many options but to name the nine players who started in midweek’s draw with Everton, and most of these players were visibly tired.
Tired legs would be the least of Tuchel’s concerns, though, as Chelsea are still at risk of losing even more players due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the squad.
The west London outfit made an attempt to postpone the game, but the Premier League board turned down their request.
According to The Guardian, the Premier League deem Chelsea had enough players available and did not meet the criteria for postponement.
The decision, however, clearly did not please Tuchel.
“I gave my opinion, the club gave its opinion, we talk a lot about safety and protecting the players, not so sure we did this today. On we go,” the German told Sky Sports after the game.
“If we have tomorrow and the next test and the next positive I would like to speak to the Premier League about what they expect.
“If they make us play against Brentford shall we not arrive or not train? What should we do?
“Everyone is allowed to have an opinion. We had an opinion and the Premier League had an opinion. We agree to disagree.”
