Chelsea could be left with just two options in bid to get rid of really unhappy player

While Chelsea have managed to reduce their wage bill following the arrival of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, there are still some players on massive salaries.

Chelsea were able to offload Romelu Lukaku, who was thought to be on a deal worth more than £300,000 a week, last summer.

However, the Blues still have Reece James, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell on their books, who are all taking home massive money.

Getting rid of wages like that will not be easy. It proved to be an extremely difficult task with Sterling last summer, with Chelsea only managing to find him a loan which is seeing them still pay some of his wages. Sterling is not set to return to Chelsea despite his lack of game time at Arsenal this season.

Chelsea running out of options with Ben Chilwell

Ideally, Chelsea will want to offload Chilwell this month. The defender is not in Enzo Maresca‘s plans and is one of the highest earners at Stamford Bridge.

Again, that will not be easy, though. According to The Sun, Chilwell is unhappy at being so low in the pecking order, but Chelsea could struggle to sell him because of his £190,000-a-week salary.

The same outlet claims that they could now be left with just two options: hand the 28-year-old a huge severance deal or heavily subsidise a loan to another Premier League club.

In November, Chilwell was linked to Juventus, so perhaps a foreign adventure should not be ruled out.

Chelsea could fill Ben Chilwell’s spot in the squad if he departs

Chilwell has become redundant at Chelsea and cannot even make their matchday squad, suggesting that Maresca has enough options in the left-back position.

Even so, it looks like Chelsea could still try to sign a new left-back this year. It has been claimed that Chelsea continue to monitor the progress of Antonee Robinson.

The Blues have already seen what Robinson can do this season, with the USA international helping Fulham to beat them 2-1 last month.
