Chelsea fans are all in agreement that Enzo Maresca made one really poor substitution in Ipswich defeat

Chelsea have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League after yesterday’s slip up at Ipswich Town.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca watched his side fall to a 2-0 away loss at Ipswich on Monday night, which follows up last week’s defeat against Fulham.

The Chelsea squad has mainly enjoyed a really positive first half of the season, but there’s a few cracks that are starting to appear going into the New Year. In fact, they’ve now slipped down to fourth in the division table.

Chelsea’s player ratings from the Ipswich result highlighted some really quiet individual contributions as part of a poor collective effort.

Chelsea fans disagree with Enzo Maresca substitution vs Ipswich

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media claim that Maresca made a really poor decision when he substituted off Joao Felix versus Ipswich.

Felix, 25, started yesterday’s league match and had a goal chalked off by a marginal offside. However, the Portuguese attacker was removed after only 10 minutes into the second half.

One fan wrote: “Felix low-key been our most threatening attacker and he gets subbed first you can’t make this up.”

“How does Felix get subbed off here?” another asked.

One supporter claimed: “Maresca are we watching the same game? Why is Felix getting subbed?”

“I’m sorry but Felix doesn’t deserve to be subbed. It should be Nkunku for Jackson,” another posted.

Felix’s substitution in Chelsea’s defeat to Ipswich felt quite harsh because he was showing moments of positive attacking threat. However, it’s pretty clear that the forward isn’t a big favourite under Maresca this season.

Could Joao Felix leave Chelsea already?

Felix re-signed for Chelsea in the summer on a permanent basis, but could he be set for a quick move away from Stamford Bridge?

The versatile attacker has made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Blues in the first half of the season. However, he’s only played 10 Premier League matches, starting just three times.

Felix is not expected to leave Chelsea in January despite his ongoing struggle for minutes. It’s interesting that a player with his individual talent and reputation is finding it so difficult this campaign, though.

It was encouraging to see Felix recalled to Chelsea’s starting line-up last night against Ipswich, but it felt like a real body blow when he was removed after 55 minutes.
