Chelsea supporters have grown quite accustomed to watching one of their loanees find the net on a regular basis in Europe this season.

Last night was no different, as Romelu Lukaku scored the second of what turned out to be a 4-0 rout of Brighton in the first knockout stage of the Europa League.

The evening may have told Chelsea all they needed to know about Roberto De Zerbi on the big stage too, with him being mentioned as a potential managerial candidate for if Mauricio Pochettino goes.

Someone who is certainly not likely to remain at Stamford Bridge is Lukaku, who has rediscovered his goalscoring touch as part of the Roma side.

His comments after the game seemed to suggest that he had no desire to return to the club where he was at one point their record signing.

Despite this, it has not stopped Chelsea fans taking to Twitter to state just how good they still think the striker is.

Chelsea fans on Lukaku

One user said: “Watching Romelu Lukaku fills me with equal parts sadness and anger (not just towards him, but many people). This is not a player who should be playing for Roma, respectfully.

“He’s still a cream of the crop striker. The way he has messed up his last 3 years is horrific.”

Another added: “Chelsea is struggling to score goals while Romelu Lukaku is scoring goals for fun.”

A third said: “I’ll take Lukaku at Chelsea again. I’m not even joking.”

A striker is reportedly top of the list for the summer as far as any transfers are concerned this summer.

The likes of Victor Osimhen have been mentioned as one of those who the club admire, with their interest stretching back a number of windows now.

It remains to be seen though if they have the finances to pull of a deal like this, with it expected by many in the Premier League that they are going to need to sell big to afford it.

They will be hoping they can bring in quite a large fee for the permanent sale of Lukaku at last.
