Chelsea supporters really like what they’ve just seen from Dario Essugo in a La Liga match.
It was confirmed in March by Sporting Lisbon that they’ve agreed to sell Dario Essugo, 20, to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The defensive midfielder has been enjoying a season-long loan in Spain with La Liga club Las Palmas, but he’ll be moving to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign.
Chelsea’s plan with Essugo is to use him in their first-team squad in next year’s 2025/26 campaign. As a result, Chelsea’s midfield depth next season looks absolutely formidable.

Chelsea fans amazed by Dario Essugo performance for Las Palmas
On Monday night, Las Palmas came from behind to record a 1-1 draw away to Celta Vigo in a Spanish top-flight match.
Chelsea signing Essugo, who started on the bench, made an impressive impact as a half-time substitute.
Here are Blues fans on X that were super impressed by the midfielder’s combative display…
One fan wrote: “Essugo is a ball winning machine.”
“This Essugo guy is good. A very good back up for Caicedo,” another said.
One supporter shared: “Essugo is everywhere, elite duel winner.”
“Dario Essugo what a talent. You can disagree with this but he’s far better than Lesley Ugochukwu,” another posted.
Chelsea think Essugo is similar to Moises Caicedo as a ball-winning midfielder who can be a physical presence in the centre of the park. It could be a scary sight for opposition teams if they play next to each other next season.
Essugo has a major part to play for Las Palmas in the remainder of the season as they fight relegation before he makes his high-profile switch to West London.

Dario Essugo statistics vs Celta Vigo
Even though Essugo only played the second half in Monday night’s league game, he showed what he’s about with a positive contribution.
| Minutes played | Shots | Accurate passes | Interceptions | Clearances | Duels won | Dribbled past | Match rating |
| 45 | 1 | 16/22 (73%) | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 6.9 |
Essugo is a defensively-minded midfielder who covers ground well and gets stuck in. On paper, he should be a decent fit for the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
The 20-year-old youngster will face competition for places from the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia next season, but supporters already seem very excited about what he’ll bring to the squad.
