Chelsea were again left to rue individual errors as they were defeated 2-1 by Aston Villa at Villa Park.

After taking the lead through Enzo Fernandez, a brace from Marco Asensio saw them lose, however fingers were pointed at Filip Jorgensen for the late winner.

The Spaniard’s shot squirmed through the Blues goalkeeper, who had enjoyed a strong showing up until that moment.

Enzo Maresca declared Jorgensen the number one at Stamford Bridge recently, however he has not covered himself in glory since becoming the starting goalkeeper.

The Dane had been waiting patiently for his opportunity, with Chelsea fans’ frustration at Robert Sanchez putting pressure on the manager to make a change.

Chelsea fans fuming at Filip Jorgensen after error against Aston Villa

Those very supporters were left to rue Jorgensen’s error against Villa, with them seeming to come to the conclusion that having no elite number one sums up the transfer policy at the club right now.

One user said: “Oh my god Jorgensen. That is… wow. So bad.”

Another added: “Asensio makes it 2-1, Jorgensen isn’t good enough either. Sums up this club right now.”

A third stated: “I didn’t think it was possible. I was Wrong. Jorgensen is a worse goalkeeper than Sanchez.”

Finally, one user said: “We suck at buying GKs. I never understood why we had to spend that much on Sanchez and Jorgensen. Also, we had no reason to buy a developing GK like Jorgensen last summer. GKs are cheap. You don’t need to spend that much and still develop him.”

Chelsea’s summer goalkeeper plan

It is clear that many believe the Blues need to address the goalkeeper position in the summer transfer window. That is one of many positions that could be improved.

Chelsea are looking at new goalkeepers despite their backing of those already at the club, with their number one from last season starring on loan right now.

Djordje Petrovic has been brilliant for Strasbourg, and even Kepa Arrizabalaga’s performances at Bournemouth look as if they would be an upgrade on what they currently have available.
