Chelsea fans suggest they should make ‘cheeky bid’ for £35m Manchester City star after transfer development

Chelsea and Manchester City have conducted quite a bit of transfer business between each other in recent years. Now, Blues fans think they should consider targeting another Man City star to bring to Stamford Bridge.

Of course, Chelsea pulled off a masterstroke when they signed Cole Palmer, a product from the Man City academy, in 2023.

It would be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola’s side are prepared to sell another player to their rivals, especially because they will both hope to be competing around the top end of the Premier League next season.

Chelsea recently enquired about Nico O’Reilly, the 20-year-old Man City talent. However, Blues supporters have suggested they look at his teammate as an option.

Chelsea fans urge club to target Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson

Ederson, who’s been at the Etihad Stadium since 2017, has created a legacy for himself as one of the Premier League’s best-ever goalkeepers. Remarkably, the £35m gloveman (BBC) has 168 clean sheets in 372 appearances for Man City across all competitions.

The 32-year-old Brazilian gloveman is about to enter the final years of his contract in Manchester, though.

On top of that, journalist Fabrizio Romano claims via X on Friday that Man City are about to re-sign 22-year-old keeper James Trafford from Burnley.

Chelsea fans on social media are sensing it could be an opportunity for them to throw their name into the hat for Ederson.

Here are Blues supporters on X suggesting the Man City legend as a target…

One fan wrote: “They wouldn’t sell to us but I’d love him. He’s lost a bit but he’s still miles better than what we have.”

“Cheeky bid for Ederson anyone?” another posted.

One supporter commented: “Ederson to chelsea on a short contract?”

“With James Trafford moving to City I’d actually take Ederson or Stefan Ortega at Chelsea,” another said.

Reports back in February claimed that Ederson had been told to find a new club by Man City, but he was still in net for them in the second half of the season, plus he played at the Club World Cup tournament.

It will be fascinating to see how the imminent arrival of English shot-stopper Trafford impacts Ederson.

Even though some of the Chelsea fanbase are dreaming of signing the Man City star, there are no links to him yet in the rumour mill.

The goalkeeper situation at Chelsea

Without a doubt, Blues fans have wanted the club to sign a world-class goalkeeper for several years now.

Apparently, Chelsea plan to stick with Robert Sanchez as their first-choice keeper again going into the 2025/26 season, scrapping any plans to revisit interest in AC Milan gloveman Mike Maignan.

While Sanchez did enjoy a strong end to the previous campaign, particularly with his performances to help win the Club World Cup, he’s been inconsistent across the last two years. The 27-year-old Spaniard can be an excellent shot-stopper and a commanding figure, but it does always feel like a mistake may just be around the corner.
