Despite the reported requests of their manager, Chelsea look set to not be signing a new centre-back before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Enzo Maresca has demanded a new defender joins the club this summer, after news that one of his top players is set to miss the majority of the upcoming campaign.
Levi Colwill suffered a serious knee injury in the first session back in pre-season, and required surgery as a result.
There has been some good news in the form of a return to training for Wesley Fofana, however he was unable to feature in any of the pre-season friendlies at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca has said Fofana may be fit for the game against Crystal Palace, however will be aware of how unreliable the Frenchman has proven to be in his time at the club.
Chelsea fans however believe that they know why there have been no substantial reports linking them to a new centre-back this summer.
They took to social media to state that the quality of new signing Mamadou Sarr means the club should not be looking to block his pathway when he returns from his loan spell away.

One user said: “The fact that he played DM for most his time in the Lyon academy really reflects his ability on the ball. I was hoping he wouldn’t get loaned out cuz honestly that CCB position coulda been his. Another reason why I don’t want to sign a CB to replace Colwill.”
Another added: “Think we’d have kept him here if the Colwill injury happened earlier Can’t we recall him tho?”
A third claimed: “I’ve changed my mind, we don’t need another CB. Let’s manage what we have.”
Another stated: “I just don’t know how Maresca has seen this and say he’s not ready. I think he’s much more ready than Acheampong, but I guess he’s going to benefit much more from the loan. Also the Colwill injury wasn’t expected.”
Finally, one user said: “Is there anywhere in FIFA’s rule books that says we can’t recall him back since we loaned him this season? Cause we could easily loan out Anselmino to Strasbourg who needs more game time, feel like Sarr is further along with his development.”
Sarr set for season away from Chelsea
Sarr will spend the season on loan with Strasbourg, the club who the Blues originally signed him from earlier this summer.
This is despite him making his competitive debut, and winning his first trophy with Chelsea, at the Club World Cup in the United States.
Staff at Chelsea have been very impressed by Sarr with what they have seen already, and it seems only a matter of time before he gets given a regular chance at Stamford Bridge.
In Estevao Willian and Mike Penders, the club already have two of the most promising players in their respective positions, and Sarr can already be added to this list.
