Chelsea give big hint 18-year-old is about to be called up to Conference League squad tomorrow night

Chelsea have been given a great chance this season to get the best out of their whole squad with matches in the Conference League.

The Blues are certain to rotate tomorrow night when they get their campaign underway with the visit of Gent to Stamford Bridge.

It is likely that Enzo Maresca names a side similar to the one that started against Barrow in the Carabao Cup as opposed to the one who was recently successful again the Premier League against Brighton.

No risks will be taken with the likes of Cole Palmer and Wesley Fofana, with the pair of them not named in the squad for the group stages of this competition.

Because of this, a number of the younger players may be feeling like they have their chance to prove their point to the manager.

Chelsea hint at Josh Acheampong Conference League involvement

One of those is Josh Acheampong. Maresca has been asked directly in a press conference already this season about the full-back.

As pointed out by Nizaar Kinsella on Twitter, there is a good chance Acheampong will be involved tomorrow as part of the first team squad.

This is because he was nowhere to be seen for last night’s academy game, while the likes of Tyrique George were in action.

Reece James injured

Reece James remains unavailable for selection at the moment. Maresca doesn’t seem to know when his club captain will return anyway.

Malo Gusto was seen back in the starting side for a Premier League game for the first time since before the international break, however his return should be managed where possible due to his semi-regular injury concerns.

Tomorrow seems a perfect opportunity to see once and for all whether Acheampong is ready to feature regularly for the first team, or if a loan move away is needed before that is a real option.
