Chelsea have just confirmed that one player in their first team squad is now having to see a specialist following another injury.

In the weekly updates on their own website, they confirmed that Ben Chilwell was now having to seek extra attention again for an issue he has picked up.

Chelsea have been plagued with injuries this season, however the return of Chilwell in the first team picture had been one of the positives of the recent weeks.

However, with no backup obviously available in the squad, he has been forced to play more minutes than ideally the club would have liked on his road to recovery.

There has been a chance that this might have unforutnately lead to another issue, with him being mentioned alongside some other new names on the injury list.

He is down as ‘undergoing specialist medical assessment’ which differs from what it normally says for players who are unavailable for selection.

Also new additions to the list are Levi Colwill and Conor Gallagher, with the latter suffering with illness in the build up to the game with Newcastle.

The extent of all of these problems remain to be seen, but they will all be huge blows for Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to pick his side to take on Eddie Howe’s men on Monday.

It may at least bring a great opportunity for Marc Cucurella to start his first game of 2024, after being named in the squad last time out.
