Chelsea will be going into the 2025/26 season on a high after being crowned champions of the world after their participation in the Club World Cup.

Enzo Maresca led his side to a dominant 3-0 victory over PSG in the final, making a mockery of the side who had been crowned Champions League winners just weeks before.

The Blues have already shown their intention to build on a very strong 2024/25 season in the transfer market with the additions of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens, as well as welcoming Estevao Willian and Andrey Santos into the first team squad.

Questions have already been asked at what Chelsea can achieve in the upcoming campaign. Alan Shearer has tipped them to challenge for the Premier League title.

They weren’t too far away from achieving this goal last season, although Maresca was quick to tell people Chelsea were not in a title race despite being within a few points of eventual winners Liverpool.

They will be back competing in the top tier of European football too. Chelsea will be in the Champions League, after being crowned Conference League winners in the previous campaign.

The Blues however are keeping their expectations low for the upcoming season, and are not currently thinking about mounting a serious challenge domestically.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea want a top four or five finish to maintain their place amongst Europe’s elite, as well as good runs in the FA Cup and League Cup.

The report goes on to say that they also want to have a good crack at the Champions League, the competition they won in 2021 that allowed them access to this summer’s Club World Cup.

Chelsea in for tough start to 25/26

Despite Chelsea and Manchester City being part of the Club World Cup, the Blues will see their domestic season get underway at exactly the same time as every other top-flight club.

This means the players are in for a much shorter post-season break, with pre-season fixtures against AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen starting on August 8.

A number of those who were not at the Club World Cup are already back in training, however the majority are not set to feature for Maresca’s side.

Estevao Willian could be about to return earlier than his new teammates though, with Palmeiras knocked out of the competition by Chelsea at the quarter-final stage.
