Former Chelsea player and manager Frank Lampard had already enjoyed a very strong start to life as manager of Coventry City, however has taken things to a new level in the 2025/26 campaign.

Lampard led his side to the play-offs last season after taking them up the table following his appointment, however they fell short to eventually promoted Sunderland.

Nine games into the new season though, Coventry sit top of the table, and have been entertaining the masses while doing so with the Blues legend at the wheel.

Their last two results before the international break saw them win a combined 9-0 away from home against Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard the only unbeaten manager left in England

Perhaps the most impressive feature of their campaign so far is the fact that they are yet to taste defeat, winning five and drawing four of their opening fixtures.

Lampard is the only manager in England to have this record at this stage of the season, making him the only one who can still dream of the near-impossible invincible season.

While there feels a very low chance that Chelsea fans will ever see Lampard in the home dugout again after two stints in charge at the past, however it has to be said that he is excelling the man currently in charge of the Blues.

Lampard outperforming Maresca this season

Coventry have scored 27 goals already this season in the Championship, 12 more than any side in the division. The number is also 20 more than Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have managed so far, albeit with two less games played.

The Blues have already been defeated twice this season to Manchester United and Brighton, with them going down to 10 men in both of those games.

Chelsea fans showed anger at Maresca inside Stamford Bridge, however any discontent seemed to disappear following their most recent outing.

The Blues beat champions Liverpool 2-1 following Estevao Willian’s last-minute winner, when Maresca was sent off for his passionate celebrations right in front of the home fans.
