Chelsea’s defeat to Brighton felt like a new low for Enzo Maresca, and some of the supporters inside Stamford Bridge were keen to let him know they were not too happy.

For the second successive Premier League game, the Blues collapsed after going down to 10 men, this time losing 3-1 to the Seagulls.

Trevoh Chalobah was sent off for Chelsea for a foul when they were 1-0 up in the second half, and looking like the side who were most likely to score the second goal of the game.

His departure left a very inexperienced duo of Jorrel Hato and Josh Acheampong on the pitch, with them unable to hold out Danny Welbeck and co for the rest of the game.

Chelsea fans abuse Enzo Maresca during nightmare defeat to Brighton

Despite it being not quite as drastic as against United, Chelsea again ended up with no attacking support for Joao Pedro on the pitch, leaving them very little chance of getting back into the game after they went behind.

As they conceded twice in added time, supporters didn’t hesitate to leave the game early, showing their discontent for the manager in the process.

According to The Telegraph, some of those who left Stamford Bridge early shouted abuse at the Italian on their way out, with those who stayed booing the Blues at full-time.

It has been a nightmare month for Chelsea in all competitions, and now the pressure is on Maresca to deliver a result in the Champions League on Tuesday, when a familiar face will be in town.

Maresca vs Mourinho a huge game for Chelsea

Jose Mourinho’s first Champions League game in charge of Benfica will see him visit West London again, a decade on from when he departed as manager for the second time.

Maresca admitted he was excited to face Mourinho, however the drastic change in feeling around the club could have altered that feeling recently.

Chelsea fans have been heard chanting Mourinho’s name in the last two seasons at Stamford Bridge, with him often being a reference point for the success of any manager at the club since he first came in.

The Blues can take solace in Mourinho’s poor record against Chelsea, however they will be under pressure to deliver a result on Tuesday, especially after defeat in the opening Champions League game.
