Chelsea loaned out several of their players during the summer transfer window, including the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Djordje Petrovic.

Raheem Sterling and Kepa Arrizabalaga both remained in England after joining Arsenal and Bournemouth respectively, while Djordje Petrovic moved to France, signing for Chelsea‘s sister club Strasbourg.

There was no room for either Kepa or Petrovic in the squad following the arrival of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

Jorgensen is currently the No.2, but he is pushing to become the No.1 after Robert Sanchez’s two huge mistakes against Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend. Chelsea could falter in the title race because of him, according to former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

Djordje Petrovic wants to become Chelsea’s No.1 again

Before Chelsea signed Jorgensen, it was Petrovic who was competing against Sanchez for the No.1 spot at Stamford Bridge.

In fact, at one point, the 24-year-old had even become the team’s first-choice shot-stopper following an injury to Sanchez. After recovering, the Spaniard could not win back his place in the side.

He is now No.1 again, but Petrovic is not giving up on returning to Chelsea and becoming a key player under Enzo Maresca.

“I have a big responsibility on my chest to show my quality because I played in the Premier League, at the highest level,” the Serbian was recently quoted as saying by Get French Football News.

“I am focused on Strasbourg; I am happy to be here. That is my goal, to be No.1 at Chelsea, one of the best teams in the world.”

Can Djordje Petrovic win back his place in the Chelsea team?

Petrovic’s Chelsea career may not necessarily be over because of Jorgensen’s arrival.

The club sent him out on loan and to Strasbourg, who are also owned by BlueCo. They obviously still care about his development.

However, it is hard to imagine the Serbia international becoming No.1 again. Maresca looks set on Sanchez and if that changes, you would expect Jorgensen to get a chance to stake his claim.

Ultimately, you can see Petrovic being reintegrated into this Chelsea squad. But the former New England Revolution man becoming first-choice stopper again seems unlikely.

In the summer, it was claimed that Chelsea had doubts about Petrovic and whether he would suit Maresca’s style.
