Given the vast amount of players Chelsea have in their first team and academy squad, there are a plethora of individuals who have had to go out on loan this season to prove their worth to the club.
Some have impressed more than others. Djordje Petrovic is in contention to return to the first team squad after his excellent spell with Strasbourg.
However, the Blues will have some headaches they need to sort out, most notably the situation of Joao Felix after it has become clear AC Milan do not intend to sign him permanently.
A number of young stars with big futures at the club have been out on loan this season, some of whom have been tipped for big things by key figures at Stamford Bridge.
One of those is Leo Castledine, who has spent this campaign on loan in League One with Shrewsbury Town.

Leo Castledine returns to Chelsea after injury on loan
Club legend John Terry is excited by Castledine’s potential, and he even made his debut for the first team in the EFL Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough last season.
It was reported earlier this year that Castledine had suffered an ‘overuse injury’ as a result of being a key player for his side this season.
However, this seems to have brought an early end to his spell at Shrewsbury, with their manager Michael Appleton telling the Shropshire Star that he had returned to Chelsea and his season is pribably over.
He said: “I don’t think so. He has gone back to Chelsea. It looks like his season is probably sort of done from an injury point of view. Which is a shame because he has got quality, as a lot of those young players from the top clubs have.”

Leo Castledine’s impressive 2024/25
Given it was the youngsters first loan spell away from the club, Castledine will be pleased with the impact he was able to have in midfield for Shrewbsury.
| Leo Castledine 24/25 stats | Total |
| Games | 23 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Tackle % | 75% |
| Duels won | 118 |
| Aerial duels won | 59 |
| Recoveries | 57 |
Castledine said he was enjoying his spell away when interviewed back in January, with regular minutes the key to any young player wanting to make their mark at a top team.
The youngster will likely be assessed when fit again during the summer to see whether he would be best suited remaining at the club, or if another spell on loan would suit him more.
