Reports have claimed that Chelsea actually made a deadline day bid to sign Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge.

According to ‘Transfer Confidential’, any deal hinged on Ian Maatsen leaving the club in the final few hours of what was a hectic summer transfer window.

Deadline day looked set to be one that was overshadowed by the departure of a couple of key first team players in the final hours.

One of those was Maatsen, who was reportedly subject of a bid from former loan club Burnley as the window came towards the end.

The Blues reportedly accepted this offer, however were struggling to convince the player to give up on his dream of making it at Stamford Bridge.

This saw him remain at the club, with many supporters happy that he had decided on that.

Now, it has emerged that this has actually stopped the Blues from making a different signing in the form of Nusa.

Todd Boehly has remained keen this summer to bring in some of the world’s most promising talents, and the Brugge star certainly fits into that category.

He has been described as ‘exciting’ by ScoreNigeria, as reports recently have linked him to a number of big clubs.

The Blues have loaned out a number of their young prospects in an attempt to get them minutes this season, although some have remained at Stamford Bridge.

After talks that he could be on the move, Deivid Washington is still a part of the Chelsea squad after his addition from Brazil.

He was named on the bench for the defeat last weekend against Nottingham Forest.
