In general, Chelsea have been pretty fortunate with injuries in recent months, especially when you compare it to last season.
The Blues were decimated by injury problems throughout the squad for most of the 2023/24 campaign under Mauricio Pochettino. For instance, Romeo Lavia only made one appearance during the whole season.
The approach from Enzo Maresca, the current Chelsea manager, seems to be resulting in far less injury issues this year. Of course, there’s still been a few players picking up the odd problem.

Chelsea attacker Pedro Neto feels great
Pedro Neto, who joined Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer for £54m (BBC), is now starting to find form after a quiet start to the season.
The 24-year-old winger has explained that he had to be patient in the opening months at Stamford Bridge because he joined fresh off injury problems at Wolves. Now, he feels physically fantastic after working hard to get up to his top level.
Neto told Sky Sports: “When I arrived at Chelsea I was really thankful, but I had been injured. I played in the European Championship without a lot of games before that. So, I came here and said to myself straight away that I had to take time. I had to be strong mentally because through tough times with injuries I knew it would take time to get into the best shape, and here I am today working hard and trying to get into the best shape I can. At the moment, I feel really good.”
Frank Lampard has described Chelsea attacker Neto as an “exciting” player, but now he wants him to go and find consistency.
In fairness, the Portugal international has broken into the Blues starting XI recently in the Premier League, where he’s adding some extra pace and directness.
Pedro Neto has to improve fitness record
If Neto can keep himself fit, he’s got the natural ability to make a mockery of his £54m price tag. However, he’s struggled recently with injuries and it’s the risk Chelsea took when they signed him.
Here is a look at the winger’s record during his time in English football:
| Season | Club | Appearances |
| 2024/25 | Chelsea | 14 |
| 2023/24 | Wolves | 24 |
| 2022/23 | Wolves | 21 |
| 2021/22 | Wolves | 13 |
| 2020/21 | Wolves | 35 |
| 2019/20 | Wolves | 44 |
It’s very encouraging that Neto has kept himself fit so far this season and has been building. It felt like only a matter of time before he forced his way into the Chelsea starting line-up with his talent.
Chelsea officials expect Neto to play a big role for them moving forward. It would be great news for both the player and club if he continues on this upwards trajectory.
