Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has recalled that he had to wear a microphone in training when he first signed for the club in order to be louder.
Christensen, 25, made the move to Stamford Bridge back in 2012 from Brondby.
The young centre-back played in the club’s academy teams before working as part of the first-team group. He ended up enjoying a brilliant loan with German club Borussia Monchengladbach between 2015-17, which eventually lead to him breaking into the senior squad on a regular basis at the Bridge.
He’s been speaking about when he first arrived at the London club and how he wore a microphone in training sessions to be heard more. It appears like he was asked to carry out the peculiar request back when Jose Mourinho was the manager.
In fairness, Christensen’s not the loudest or most authoritative defender in the Blues XI. There is so much to love about how much his game has improved and the way he nonchalantly goes about his work, though.
“Probably turned 16 when I arrived here. The pressure fell on my shoulders and it was more serious. I remember me and Nathan Ake had to wear microphones in training because he didn’t think we were speaking enough for central defenders… It just makes you realise how detailed everything is when you arrive here,” Christensen said.

Chelsea fans still waiting on Christensen outcome
Unfortunately, there is a lot of uncertainty around Christensen’s future right now.
The Denmark international is one of a few individuals out of contract at the club at the end of this season.
German heavyweights Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on snapping him up on a free transfer, but the player is unlikely to accept any contract offer below £8.3million-a-year.
There is time for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to sort Christensen’s future, which is exactly what they must do.
It feels like he can only improve working under Tuchel and letting him go could be a serious mistake later down the line.
